Fujigane stable

富士ヶ根部屋

Fujigane stable no longer exists. According to Japanese Wikipedia, it was dissolved in 1947 (Showa 22), when the 5th Fujigane, Wakaminato Saburo, closed it and entrusted Higashifuji to the main Takasago stable; it was not merged or renamed. According to the same source, the stable was founded in 1873 (Meiji 6), when 荒獅子勇之介 of Minatogawa stable took the name 2nd Fujigane, and the 4th Fujigane made it independent in 1930 (Showa 5). The stable raised Higashifuji Kinichi to ozeki, the second-highest rank. He later became yokozuna, the highest rank in sumo, after moving to Takasago stable.
