Wakanofuji Shoichi is a former sumo wrestler. He was born on 29 March 1956. He was 189 cm tall and weighed 143 kg. He made his professional debut in September 1971. His highest rank was Maegashira 2. In makuuchi, the top division, he recorded 62 wins and 76 losses over 10 tournaments. He earned 1 kinboshi (a "gold star": a maegashira's win over a yokozuna). His career record was 359 wins and 327 losses over 80 career tournaments. He retired in 1984. His last stable as an active wrestler was Kokonoe stable.
