Wakanami Jun

Wakanami Jun was a sumo wrestler from Ibaraki Prefecture. He was born on 1 March 1941. He was 178 cm tall and weighed 103 kg. He made his professional debut in March 1957. His highest rank was komusubi, the fourth-highest rank. In makuuchi, the top division, he recorded 351 wins and 429 losses over 52 tournaments. He won one championship in makuuchi. He earned 3 kinboshi (a "gold star": a maegashira's win over a yokozuna). He received the Fighting Spirit Prize (kanto-sho) twice. He received the Technique Prize (gino-sho) twice. His career record was 568 wins and 557 losses over 90 career tournaments. He retired in March 1972. He died on 16 April 2007 at the age of 66. His last stable as an active wrestler was Tatsunami stable.
